To celebrate the first home game win of the 2013 Season, Perth Thunder is thrilled to show our fans all six goals from the huge win!
GOAL 1
Scorer: Sam Wilson
Assists: Michael Forney and Matt Strueby
How it happened: Sam scored only 1 min and 38 seconds into the game. Finding a bouncing puck in the crease, ‘Willo’ didn’t waste any time batting it home to open the scoring!
GOAL 2
Scorer: Joe Tolles
Assists: Michael Forney
How it happened: Finding space along the boards, Tolles received a great pass from Forney before sniping the puck straight past Kimlin’s Glove. A beautiful goal!
GOAL 3
Scorer: Michael Forney
Assists: Ric Del Basso
How it happened: They’ll be talking about this goal all week! Michael swept into the zone and appeared to be throwing a low-percentage shot on net, likely looking for a bounce. WRONG!
With one of the best shots we’ve seen in Perth, Forney nailed home the goal and the home crowd went crazy!
GOAL 4
Scorer: Matt Strueby
Assists: Joe Tolles and Sam Wilson
How it happened: A backhand goal you’d have to see to believe! Matt received a great pass from Tolles after some great in-zone cycling and got great elevation on one of the dirtiest backhand shots we’ve ever seen!
GOAL 5
Scorer: Michael Forney
Assists: Matt Strueby and Sam Wilson
How it happened: Here’s a tip, don’t ever let Michael Forney get behind your Defense. Pass, Breakaway and another goal and point for the ECHL All-Star.
AND GOAL 6 – THE GAME WINNER!
Scorer: Matt Strueby
Assists: Sam Wilson and Michael Forney
How it happened: Lets set the scene. With less than 7 Minutes left in the 3rd, The Ice Dogs, who had been trailing all game, tied it up at 5-5. Both teams were battling hard and neither could finish any chances.
With less than half a minute remaining on the clock, it looked like we were heading for overtime, when the Thunder entered the zone.
Cycling the puck, Forney sent a pass up to the point to find Sam Wilson, who didn’t waste any time and threw the puck on net, where a driving Strueby was able to find a rebound of Kimlin’s left pad and hammer home the game winner!
You have never head Perth Ice Arena so loud! Here’s the goal and the celebration –
The puck rests on the heel of Strueby’s Stick.
And its in the net!!!
….and the Captain can’t believe it, as Wilson joins an ecstatic Strueby!
24 seconds later…it was all over! Game, Thunder!
