After a very intense, action packed and high scoring game I was pleased to hear the final buzzer! Well laid plans often don’t go as you intended and you have to improvise on the spot, and last night we had to improvise every five minutes. Fortunately Dave Kenway and myself got more decisions right than wrong, especially in the second period with a 5 minute penalty kill and a 5 on 3. Hats off to our players for being very focused.
It’s moments like that which can turn a game which was 3-0 down in the second – we kill the play then score 2 goals to win the period 2-1 and change the momentum in our favour. I believed we would be strong in the third period. Our D played a little more positional and disciplined, and our forwards started creating time and space but more importantly they put the puck in the net!
I prefer not to credit individuals, however, Fox who was quite ill with the flu really worked hard for us and he and Stefan showed great leadership and commitment to the team, as well as some very dainty dangles. Secondary scoring kicked in again and I can’t emphasize how important that is to any team with Cox and Kyros both chipping in with important goals again, and that is what wins games.
All I can say is that our fans were incredible and pushed us over the line and tonight we expect another very intense affair. It is time to dig deep and fight for another 3 points so make sure you are there supporting us, I think it will be a classic.
